Working with a chime candle does not require elaborate preparation. What matters most is that you come to the ritual with a clear mind and a sincere intention. Here is a simple way to begin.
- Prepare your space. Find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Place your candle in a secure holder on a heat-safe, fireproof surface. Clear the area of clutter and, if you like, place a crystal nearby — green aventurine, malachite, or moss agate all pair beautifully with dark green candle work.
- Set your intention. Before lighting the candle, hold it in your hands for a moment. Breathe slowly and bring to mind what you are calling in — whether that is abundance, healing, stability, or growth. Speak your intention aloud or silently, letting it settle into your body as well as your mind.
- Write it down. On a small piece of paper, write your intention in clear, present-tense language, as though it is already unfolding. Place the paper beneath the candle holder as a physical anchor for your working.
- Light the candle. As the flame catches, allow yourself a few moments of quiet focus. Watch the flame and let it serve as a reminder that your intention is now alive and in motion. You do not need to sit with the candle for its entire burn — simply check on it regularly and never leave it unattended.
- Close the ritual. When the candle has burned out completely, take a moment to offer gratitude — for the practice, for the intention, and for whatever is already making its way toward you. You may keep the written intention in a meaningful place, bury it in the earth, or release it in whatever way feels right to you.
- Burn safely. Remember to keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch before each use, burn only on a stable fireproof surface, and extinguish the flame completely if you need to leave the room.
