To burn Sandalwood Resin, you will need a charcoal disk, a heatproof incense burner or heat-safe dish filled with sand or salt, and a pair of tongs. Hold the charcoal disk with your tongs and light the edge with a lighter or match, allowing it to catch and begin glowing — this usually takes about 30 to 60 seconds. Once the disk is fully lit and you see a light grey ash forming across its surface, set it carefully into your burner using the tongs. Wait another minute or two until the charcoal is evenly hot before placing 1 to 3 small chips of sandalwood resin directly onto the disk. The resin will begin to melt and release its warm, woody aroma within moments. You can add more chips as needed to keep the fragrance going throughout your session.
Always burn sandalwood resin in a well-ventilated room, and place your burner on a stable, heat-safe surface well away from curtains, paper, or anything flammable. The charcoal disk gets extremely hot and retains heat for a long time, so never touch it directly and never leave it burning unattended. Keep your burner out of reach of children and pets, and allow the charcoal to cool completely in the burner before disposing of it. A small dish of sand inside your burner is a practical way to both protect the vessel and help stabilize the charcoal disk during use.
