To connect with The Queer Tarot, begin by holding the deck in your hands for a few moments before each reading. Think about a question or area of your life you want to explore. When you are ready to shuffle, choose whichever method feels most comfortable — an overhand shuffle works well for beginners and involves passing small sections of cards from one hand to the other repeatedly. A riffle shuffle splits the deck in two and interleaves the cards together. You can also simply cut the deck into several piles and reassemble them in a new order. There is no single correct method — consistency and intention matter more than technique.
For a daily single-card draw, shuffle the deck while focusing on a simple question such as "What should I be aware of today?" Draw one card and spend a few minutes sitting with the image before consulting the guidebook. This is a low-pressure way to build familiarity with the cards over time.
For a three-card past, present, and future spread, shuffle the deck and lay three cards face down in a row from left to right. Flip them one at a time. The first card represents past influences, the second reflects your current situation, and the third points toward a likely outcome or direction moving forward.
Keep a journal dedicated to your readings. After each pull, write down the card name, your first impressions of the image, and any thoughts or feelings that came up. Over time, patterns in your readings will become easier to recognize and interpret.
If you are new to tarot, start with the guidebook included in the deck as a reference point, but do not rely on it exclusively.
