To use your White Sage & Ruda Rue stick, begin by opening a window or door to allow fresh air to circulate through your space — this helps energy move freely as you work. Hold the tip of the bundle over a flame until it catches, then gently blow out the flame so the herbs begin to smolder. Hold the stick over a heat-safe dish, abalone shell, or ceramic bowl at all times to catch any falling ash, and never leave a lit bundle unattended. Keep the stick away from children, pets, curtains, paper, and anything else that could catch fire. If the bundle stops smoldering, simply relight it as needed. When you are finished, press the lit end firmly into sand or soil to fully extinguish it — do not use water, as this can damage the bundle if you plan to reuse it.
