Resin Burning Note: Resin incense requires a charcoal disk to burn. The charcoal disk and resin burner get extremely hot during use — always handle with care and place on a heat-safe surface.
To burn frankincense resin, you will need a charcoal disk, a heatproof burner or heat-safe bowl filled with sand, and a pair of tongs. Hold the charcoal disk with tongs and light the edge until it begins to spark and self-ignite — this means it is fully activated. Place it carefully into your sand-filled bowl and allow it to heat for about two to three minutes before adding a small pinch of frankincense resin directly onto the glowing disk. The resin will begin to melt and release its warm, aromatic smoke almost immediately. Start with a small piece, as a little goes a long way. You can also use an electric resin warmer as a flameless alternative, which offers more control over heat and scent intensity. Always burn resin on a stable, heat-safe surface, in a well-ventilated room, and never leave it unattended. Keep your burner well out of reach of children and pets, and away from curtains, paper, or any flammable materials — the charcoal disk gets extremely hot and stays hot long after the resin has finished burning.
Once your resin is releasing smoke, it is ready to support whatever practice you have in mind. To clear and reset a space before a gathering, ritual, or simply after a difficult day, carry the burner slowly through each room or let it rest at a central point and allow the smoke to drift naturally. To shift the energy on your altar or in your workspace, set the bowl nearby and take a few slow breaths to arrive and settle. For meditation, place the burner safely beside your cushion or chair before you sit, breathe in the warm scent intentionally, and let it anchor your focus as you move inward. Frankincense pairs beautifully with sandalwood, myrrh, or palo santo if you want to layer scents — add each resin one at a time and observe how the aromas combine.
